THE CORPRENEUR BRIEF Intelligence for the executive who's building beyond the org chart. Issue #007 | Monday, June 8th
I want to ask you something this week and I want you to sit with it before you answer.
How many times in the last 30 days has someone come to you for advice, strategy, or a judgment call that you gave away without a second thought?
Think about it honestly. A colleague pulls you aside before a big meeting. A peer texts you to get your read on a situation. Your manager leans on your insight before making a call. Someone on your team says let me run this by you before they move forward.
That's consulting. You've just been doing it for free inside a company that packages your expertise into a salary and keeps the margin.
I want you to count those moments this week. Every single one. Every time someone comes to you because you're the person who knows, write it down. Don't overthink it. Just count.
Because here's what I know about the people reading this newsletter. You are not underutilized because you lack talent. You are underutilized because nobody outside your organization knows you exist. Your expertise has a ceiling inside your company. It has no ceiling in the open market.
This week's action is simple. Start counting. Every advisory moment. Every strategy conversation. Every time someone values your judgment enough to seek it out. By Friday I want you to have a number. That number is the beginning of your consulting practice. You just haven't built the infrastructure around it yet.
We're going to build on this all week. Come back Wednesday.
Take the Corporate Income Audit and start seeing what those moments are actually worth outside your employer. Take the audit here.
