THE CORPRENEUR BRIEF Intelligence for the executive who's building beyond the org chart. Issue #009 | Friday, June 12th
It's Friday. Let's reflect.
I asked you Monday to start counting every time someone came to you this week for advice, strategy, or a judgment call. I want to know what you came up with.
Not because I need the number. Because I want you to see it clearly for yourself.
If you counted honestly, my guess is the number is higher than you expected. It usually is. Because when you're the person people come to, it becomes so normal that you stop registering it as valuable. It just feels like part of the job. Part of being a good team player. Part of showing up the way a senior professional is supposed to show up.
But I want you to reframe that number today.
Every one of those moments was a market signal. Someone with a real problem, inside a real organization, sought out your specific judgment to help them solve it. That's not just being helpful. That's expertise in demand. The only difference between what you did this week and what an independent consultant does is that the consultant has built the infrastructure to get paid for it outside of a salary.
You've been running a consulting practice inside your company for years. You just haven't been treating it like one.
Here's what I want you to carry into next week. The question isn't whether your expertise is valuable enough to monetize outside your employer. This week proved it is. The question is whether you're going to keep giving it away indefinitely or start building the platform that lets the market find you and pay you directly.
That's the conversation we're opening up next week. Come back Monday.
